Annie Leibovitz's Iconic 65-Acre Farm Hits The Market!

Legendary portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz has put her vast 65-acre California farm, known as the Hideaway, up for sale at $8.99 million. The Wall Street Journal first revealed this picturesque property for potential buyers.

Leibovitz, celebrated for her iconic magazine portraits of luminaries like John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Bob Dylan, acquired the farm in the Bay Area town of Bolinas in 2019. Initially envisioning a return to her Californian roots, the photographer, now 74, shared her deep connection to the state where she honed her craft at the San Francisco Art Institute.

The decision to sell the Hideaway stems from Leibovitz’s evolving plans to move back to the West Coast. Her aspiration to revive the farm as a teaching and working establishment alongside a local farmer was altered when her daughter chose a college in the Northeast, redirecting Leibovitz’s focus.

The estate, purchased for $7.5 million just before the onset of the pandemic, has seen significant infrastructure upgrades worth approximately $2 million during Leibovitz’s ownership. Nestled within its expanse are three residences, including a charming four-bedroom main house, guest quarters, a caretaker’s home, and various barns, each with unique historical significance.

Among the distinctive features are a seven-stall horse barn, a hay barn, a dairy facility housing a recording studio, and a barn dating back to the 1930s boasting a performance stage. These structures add character to the property, reflecting its rich heritage.

The current listing, managed by agents Alexander Fromm Lurie and Nick Svenson from Compass, is an opportunity to own a piece of Leibovitz’s legacy and experience the scenic beauty of Bolinas. With extensive equestrian amenities and serene surroundings, the Hideaway presents a chance for a new owner to embrace a historic retreat with modern comforts.

The allure of Leibovitz’s former sanctuary invites prospective buyers to explore the fusion of artistic inspiration and natural splendor that defines this remarkable California farm. As the Hideaway awaits its next chapter, it stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of one of the world’s most renowned photographers.
