End of an Era: Pocono Palace Resort Shuts Down After 48 Years

A longtime honeymoon hotspot is about to close its doors after almost half a century of hosting sweethearts seeking romantic getaways with a touch of whimsy. The Pocono Palace Resort in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, is renowned for its quirky attractions like a patented 7-foot tall champagne glass whirlpool bath for two and heart-shaped tubs—all set to shut down next month.

The hotel’s owner, Cove Pocono Resorts, announced the impending closure on its website, stating that the property has been sold, with the official transfer of title scheduled for May 2. Although the iconic couples retreat opened in 1976, only the 206 Fantasy Road resort has been sold, while Cove Pocono Resorts’ other two properties, Cove Haven Resort and Paradise Stream Resort, will remain operational. Guests with reservations at the Palace beyond May 1 will be accommodated at one of the other hideaways.

Sadly, whispers suggest that the new owner has no intention of maintaining the property’s romantic ambiance and may consider closing down the 165-suite establishment to undergo renovations and rebranding into something entirely different.

Since its inception, the Pocono Palace Resort has enchanted visitors with its themed rooms, notably the champagne bath-equipped Roman Towers suite, which became a sensation and led to lengthy waiting lists for eager patrons. The hotel’s last day of operation is fast approaching on May 2, marking the end of an era.

Apart from its romantic allure, the Palace also boasted a variety of amenities such as the bar, the Applause Nightclub, and sprawling grounds filled with activities like racquetball, basketball, mini-golf, tennis, billiards, and arcade games.

Moreover, the hotel garnered substantial attention on social media platforms, showcasing its distinctive charm and picturesque decor. With its impending closure, admirers and guests have been reminiscing about their experiences at this iconic retreat and sharing their memories online, contributing to the Palace’s widespread popularity.

As the Pocono Palace Resort prepares to bid farewell, travel enthusiasts and content creators are making the most of its remaining days, capturing and sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the beloved establishment. Among them, @APrettyCoolHotelTour on TikTok unveiled the secret to accessing the famous two-story champagne flute, revealing a clever entrance via the suite’s second story with strategically placed mirrors creating an illusion of subtlety.

While the future of this legendary venue may be uncertain, its impact on romantic getaways and themed accommodations is undeniable, leaving a bittersweet legacy cherished by couples and travelers alike. As the Pocono Palace Resort reaches the end of its chapter, the memories created within its whimsical walls will endure, evoking nostalgia for a bygone era of love and kitsch.
