Daring Daylight Robbery: Gunman Targets Bronx Foot Locker

In a daring heist that left staff and onlookers stunned, a bold gunman casually strolled into a Foot Locker store located in The Bronx and brazenly snatched a collection of brand-name clothes. The incident, which took place at around 7:45 p.m. on April 9, saw the unidentified culprit swiftly grab Nike sweatshirts and sweatpants, as reported by the security guard, Lawrence Graham.

According to Graham, who was informed about the robbery by a fellow guard present at the time, the suspect wasted no time in zeroing in on the Nike sweats section, swiping the clothing before nonchalantly revealing a gun. Graham recounted, “He swiped clothes and then pulled out a gun, only to put it back and make his way to the hat section, collecting more items before exiting the store without hesitation.” Upon exiting, the audacious criminal then engaged in a verbal altercation with a guard, questioning why he was jostled during the theft.

The guard clarified the situation, stating, “I didn’t bump you — I see you have all my stuff,” highlighting the challenge of confronting armed thieves. Subsequently, the robber, having completed his misdeed, joined another individual waiting on a scooter outside the store, and together they swiftly fled the scene.

Although robberies are not a common occurrence at the Bronx Foot Locker, Graham expressed his astonishment at the unprecedented use of a firearm in the theft. His remarks also touched on the recent controversy surrounding the state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s opposition to Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposal to enhance penalties for violent shoplifters.

Heastie’s stance that increasing penalties is not an effective deterrent was met with disagreement from Graham, who emphasized the need for consequential actions against repeat offenders. He argued, “If someone keeps doing the same thing over and over, there should be consequences. Otherwise, they’ll continue their behavior without restraint.” Graham further criticized lenient sentences and bail decisions that allow suspects to evade accountability.

Despite the relative tranquility of the store, Graham underscored the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared for any unforeseen circumstances, asserting, “Even in a peaceful environment, we must stay alert. Our safety is paramount, and we cannot risk our lives over material possessions.” He emphasized the critical role of the community in aiding law enforcement by urging anyone with relevant information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline or submit tips through the Crime Stoppers website.

As the quest to apprehend the daring thief continues, the public’s cooperation and vigilance prove to be indispensable in maintaining the safety and security of retail establishments like Foot Locker in the Bronx.
