A.B. Quintanilla Scolds Dull Crowd at Tejano Music Fest

The Tejano Explosion 2024 music festival in San Antonio took a dramatic turn as A.B. Quintanilla, the brother of the late Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, expressed his frustration with the audience’s lack of enthusiasm during his performance. Quintanilla, a member of Los Kumbia Kings All Starz, admonished the crowd, stating, ‘Boo yourselves for not participating in the show.’ His outburst, captured in a now-deleted Instagram post, attributed his behavior to missing medication.

Quintanilla, visibly upset by what he perceived as a disinterested audience, compared their reactions to being forced at gunpoint to attend the show. He poured his heart out, highlighting the hard work put into his music and expressing disappointment at the lack of appreciation from the crowd. Ultimately, he declared that it would be his final performance at the Tejano music event.

Despite the initial uproar, Quintanilla acknowledged the support he had received from other places and subtly referenced his sister Selena Quintanilla Pérez, honoring her legacy during the performance. He urged the audience to support Tejano music as fervently as they support sports teams like the Dallas Cowboys, albeit triggering further boos.

Emotions continued to run high as Quintanilla reflected on his encounters with legendary musicians throughout his career and, at times, addressed those who left the show disrespectfully. Despite the tense atmosphere, Quintanilla eventually shifted his tone, extending well wishes even to those who expressed discontent during his set.

In a tragic turn of events, the festival concluded amidst violence, with fatal shootings occurring near the venue as the festivities ended. An 18-year-old suspect, shot by officers after allegedly firing at a 20-year-old victim, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 20-year-old victim succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Additionally, four female bystanders were wounded, although it remains unclear whether they were hit by the suspects’ gunfire or police rounds.

The aftermath of the festival not only showcased the intense emotions of the performers but also underlined the importance of safety and respect in public gatherings. Quintanilla’s outburst and the subsequent tragedy serve as reminders of the unpredictable nature of live events and the need for both artists and audiences to approach such occasions thoughtfully and responsibly.
